Privacy Policy
This Privacy Policy explains what personal data the TripMax app collects, how we use it, who we share it with, and the choices and rights you have. We aim to collect only what is needed to make the app work — and to be honest about it.
1.Who we are (Data Controller)
The data controller responsible for your personal data is Ahmed Gagan, the individual developer and provider of TripMax. You can reach us at agagan057@gmail.com for any privacy question or request. We are based in India, and Indian data-protection law applies to our processing, alongside other laws (such as the EU/UK GDPR) where they apply to you.
2.Data we collect
a. Location data (precise & background)
To record a drive, TripMax collects your device's precise GPS location, including in the background while a recording is active, so it can capture your route, distance, speed, top speed and altitude even when the screen is off. Location is collected only during an active tracking session that you start; when you are not recording a drive, TripMax does not track your location. You can revoke location permission at any time in your device Settings (though recording will not work without it).
b. Motion & accelerometer data
We use your device's motion sensors (accelerometer / gyroscope) to compute driving metrics such as G-force, acceleration, launch times, braking and cornering. This motion data is processed to produce your trip metrics.
c. Account & profile data
You can use TripMax as an anonymous guest (identified by a randomly generated guest ID) or by using Sign in with Apple (which provides a privacy-preserving Apple user identifier; you may also choose to hide your email via Apple's private relay). We also store the username / driver tag you choose, your car, your country, and an optional profile photo. Your profile photo is stored only on your device — it is never uploaded to our servers. The username, car and country are uploaded only if you opt in to publishing (see Section 4).
d. Trip data
The drives you record — route, timestamps, distance, speeds, launch times, altitude, G-force, braking, cornering and derived stats (your Driver Card and lifetime totals) — are stored on your device. They are additionally stored in Firebase Firestore, to enable sync, backup and leaderboards, only if you have turned on "Publish my stats" (see Section 4). If you have not, no trip data of yours leaves your device at all.
e. Usage & diagnostics (Analytics & Crashlytics)
We use Firebase Analytics to understand how the app is used (for example, which features are opened and general engagement) and Firebase Crashlytics to receive crash reports and diagnostic information (such as device model, OS version, and technical logs about a crash). This helps us fix bugs and improve the app.
f. Subscription data (RevenueCat)
If you purchase TripMax Pro, we use RevenueCat to manage and validate your subscription. RevenueCat receives a subscriber identifier and purchase/receipt information from the App Store to determine your entitlement status. We never receive or store your payment card details — payment is handled entirely by Apple.
g. Camera & photo library
The app requests access to your camera and photo library only when you choose to set a profile photo or create/save a share graphic. Share images are rendered on your device; we do not upload your photo library, and we access only the specific images you select or capture for that purpose.
3.How we use your data
- To record your drives and compute driving metrics, your Driver Card and lifetime stats;
- To sync and back up your trips across sessions and devices, if you have opted in to publishing;
- To operate leaderboards and public driver cards, only with your explicit opt-in consent (see Section 4);
- To provide, validate and restore your subscription;
- To diagnose crashes, fix bugs, secure the service and improve features;
- To respond to your support requests and communicate about the service;
- To comply with legal obligations and enforce our Terms of Use.
Where required by law, our legal bases for processing are: performance of a contract (providing the app and its features), your consent (e.g. location, camera/photos, and any optional analytics where consent is required — you can withdraw it at any time), our legitimate interests (securing and improving the app, preventing fraud on leaderboards), and legal compliance.
4.Leaderboards & public driver cards (opt-in)
Leaderboards are off until you switch them on. During onboarding TripMax asks you, on a dedicated screen, whether to publish your stats, and lists exactly what would be uploaded. Nothing is pre-selected: you choose "Publish my stats" or "Keep my stats private", and the app is fully usable either way. Until you choose to publish, none of your data is uploaded to our servers.
If you do publish, the following becomes publicly visible to other users: your username / driver tag, your car, your country, your profile photo (if you set one), and your driving bests (top speed, 0–100 time, best average speed and distance totals). Your detailed routes, exact locations and individual trips are never made public.
You can withdraw this at any time in Settings → Privacy → Publish my stats. Turning it off stops all publishing immediately and deletes what was already published — your public driver card, your leaderboard entries and your cloud-stored trips. Your data remains on your device, and your driver tag stays reserved for you in case you switch it back on.
5.Third-party processors & sharing
We do not sell your personal data. We share data only with the service providers ("processors") needed to run the app, and only as described here:
| Provider | Purpose | Data involved |
|---|---|---|
| Apple | Sign in with Apple; App Store purchases & billing | Apple user identifier; purchase/receipt data (payment handled by Apple) |
| Google / Firebase | Authentication, Firestore database, Analytics, Crashlytics | Account & profile data and trip data (only if you opt in to publishing); usage & crash diagnostics |
| RevenueCat | Subscription management & entitlement validation | Subscriber ID, subscription/entitlement status, purchase info |
These providers process data under their own privacy terms and only on our instructions for the purposes above. We may also disclose data if required by law, to protect our rights or users' safety, or in connection with a change of ownership of the app.
6.International transfers
We are based in India, and our processors (Apple, Google/Firebase, RevenueCat) operate globally and may store and process data on servers located in other countries, including the United States. Where personal data is transferred across borders, we rely on appropriate safeguards required by applicable law (such as the providers' standard contractual clauses and equivalent mechanisms) to protect it.
7.Data retention
We keep your account, profile and trip data for as long as your account exists so the app can show your history and stats. Crash and analytics diagnostics are retained for a limited period consistent with the relevant provider's defaults. When you delete your account (see Section 8), we delete or anonymise your associated cloud data. We may retain limited information where necessary to comply with legal obligations, resolve disputes or enforce our agreements.
8.Deleting your account & data
You can delete your account at any time using the in-app "Delete Account" function. This removes your cloud-stored data — including your profile, trips and leaderboard entries — from our Firebase backend. Uninstalling the app removes locally stored data from your device. If you need help deleting your data, email us at agagan057@gmail.com.
9.Your rights & choices
Depending on where you live (including under the GDPR and India's data-protection law), you have rights over your personal data, which may include:
- Access — request a copy of the personal data we hold about you;
- Rectification — correct inaccurate or incomplete data (you can edit much of your profile in-app);
- Erasure — delete your data (via in-app "Delete Account" or by contacting us);
- Restriction / objection — restrict or object to certain processing;
- Portability — receive your data in a portable format;
- Withdraw consent — turn off publishing at any time in Settings → Privacy → Publish my stats (this also deletes what was already published), and revoke device permissions (location, camera/photos) in iOS Settings;
- Complain — lodge a complaint with your local data-protection authority.
To exercise any of these rights, contact us at agagan057@gmail.com. We will respond within the timeframe required by applicable law.
10.Security
We rely on established platforms (Apple, Google/Firebase, RevenueCat) that use industry-standard security measures, including encryption in transit, to protect your data. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security, but we take reasonable steps to protect your information.
11.Children
TripMax is not directed to children and is not intended for use by anyone under the age of 13 (or under 16 where a higher minimum age applies under local law). We do not knowingly collect personal data from children below the applicable age. If you believe a child has provided us with personal data, contact us and we will delete it.
12.Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we make material changes, we will revise the "Last updated" date above and, where appropriate, notify you in the app. Please review this page periodically.
